Periyar Maniammai Institute of Science and Technology popularly known as Periyar Maniammai Institute of Science & Technology has its origin from Periyar Maniammai College of Technology for Women established in 1988, by the Periyar Maniammai Educational and Charitable Society, Chennai.The Periyar Maniammai College of Technology for Women, named after the great social reformer of the twentieth century, E.V.Ramasamy, popularly known as "ThanthaiPeriyar" and his philanthropic wife Annai Maniammaiyar, has to its credit of being the first Women's Engineering College in the world. Institutionalizing the lofty ideals of Periyar by paving the way for women's emancipation through providing increased access to higher education in Science and Technology and encouraging their participation in Social, National and Global development were the primary objective of the Institution.
The University offers technical education and encouragement to research activities invarious fields towards the over all societal interest. It has been maintaining a greenish environment and a solid infrastructure. In 2013 the university has celebrated the Silver Jubilee year. Our novel schemes like Periyar PURA have been appreciated nation wide.

In view of commemorating the 140th Birthday of Thanthai Periyar the management of Periyar Maniammai Institute of Science & Technology and the Department of Physical Education proposed to conduct tournaments in Basketball, Volleyball, Football and Ballbadminton for the selected Educational Institutions students in and around TamilNadu.Also there will be Chess and
Badminton(Singles & Doubles)tournament for staff. The main objective for these events is to build a good relationship and comradeship amoung the Institutions. These sports activities pays a tribute to the memory of Thanthai Periyar, who constantly stood for the development and progress of the people.
