This laboratory research focuses on the use of biotechnology to overcome the biotic and abiotic stresses associated with the crop plants in order to increase the crop productivity. This research incorporates aspects of Marker development for Marker Assisted breeding programme and transformation of antifungal protein producing gene from biocontrol agents to crop plants in order to give protection to the seeds against storage pathogens during seed storage.

This laboratory also working for the promotion of bamboo cultivation and bamboo based product development in the rural areas in collaboration with National Mission on Bamboo Application (NMBA), TIFAC, DST, Government of India.

In order to simplify the seed physical quality testing in seed certification programme this laboratory in collaboration with Department of Computer Science and Electronics and communication engineering working for the development of software aided machine vision technology.

Throughout the world, including India and in many such economically developing countries, the local economy cannot afford the frequent hikes in imported oil price. Every time oil price soar, a renewed interest in alternate energy source emerges. Based on the arguments presented above, research was undertaken in plant oil based methyl ester production, Engine performance and power generation potential were assed in collaboration with Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Currently this group working in the storage aspect of plant oil based methyl ester and Jatropha carcus seed oil content improvement through MAS.

This lab also working for the development of suitable herbal medicine to diabetic and urinary kidney stone. Herbal drug development against diabetics from plant origin flavanol diglycosides shows promising result. Now the drug under clinical trail.
