About the Centre
Social uplift and Students’ progress in and around Thanjavur are the prime aims of the Periyar
Maniammai Institute of science and Technology. For accomplishing this aim the institute has
inaugurated a centre namely Dr.Kalaignar Karunanithi Centre for Political science in the year 2007.
From its inception, the centre has been conducting a number of coaching classes for the aspirants
of Civil Service Examinations. The faculty members available in the campus, and resource persons
from outside colleges were invited to handle classes relevant to the subjects prescribed in the
syllabus of the Civil Service Examination. A large number of students were benefited by the
coaching classes.
Besides that, the Centre has been conducting various awareness programmes among the students
on various topics such as citizens’ constitutional obligations, human values, human rights,
and duties and responsibilities of the citizens. On the Constitution Day-November 26th,
every year the centre organizes special lecture for enlightening the students and
employees about the Indian constitution. This enables them to understand that the constitution
is the fundamental law of the land and protector of state, government, and people. This created
a sense of confidence among them over the constitution of India as the custodian of the human rights.
Similar programmes on the Fundamental Rights and Duties were conducted for making them as law abiding
citizens of India.
