About

Chemistry is called as “central science” because it connects other sciences to each other, such as biology, physics, geology, environmental science, materials science, agriculture etc. It has a significant role in our daily lives and the society. Everything on the earth is made of chemicals such as water, food, fuel, cooking gas, paints, dyes, artificial fibers, plastics, construction materials, fertilizers, pesticides, food preservatives, pharmaceutical drugs & medicines and electricity, etc. Chemistry helps us understand how items around us are made, how food gives energy to our bodies, how plants do photosynthesis, how the environmental impacts such as global warming, acid rain, pollutions, earth quake, tsunami, happens.

HOD Desk

Dear parents and my dear students, it’s my pleasure to welcome you all to the wonderful field of basic science namely Chemistry. Graduation in chemistry really have several scopes in academics as well as chemical-based industries, research and development and pharma field. I congratulate you all for choosing chemistry as your career because chemistry-related jobs are plentiful and high-paying. The importance of chemistry won't be diminished over time, so it will remain a promising career path for ever. I wish you all the very best for the bright and successful future.

Thanks for the privilage

Programme Overview

The graduate and research programs in chemistry provide a platform to acquire a strong foundation in the fundamental concepts of chemistry and its applications to the inter-related fields which is essential to solve the global problems. The learnersare able to understand the theoretical principles and practices of modern chemistry and also have hands on experience in the laboratory.

The Department of Chemistry wasestablished in the year 1988. It offers B.Sc. Chemistry, M.Sc. Chemistry, and M.Phil. (Full time) and Ph. D (Full time and Part time) programmes. Research opportunities are available in X- ray crystallography, Nano materials, heterogeneous catalysis, photo catalysis, biomethanization and Environmental chemistry.

Scope of Chemistry

  • A degree in Chemistry prepares one for work in chemical analysis, forensics, water treatment, food technology, quality management, environmental management, industrial processing, chemical or pharmaceutical manufacturing or agriculture.
  • A chemistry degree also opens up opportunities in medicine, engineering, energy management, academics and a host of other fields. Studies in Chemistry will help to cultivate the student’s analysis skills, develop confidence, general professionalism and work ethics.
